Hatay, 2011

St. Simon Monastery is located on the hill called Samandağı today. This monastery, which was built in the 6th century A.D.,  is still visited as a pilgrimage center today. It has an important place in Early Christian art and Byzantine architectural history with its topographic location, churches, saint’s column, baptistery, tombs and accommodation places. It is one of the most important buildings of its period in terms of its architectural features (plan scheme, facade order, decorations, etc.).
